Treatment of Addison's disease usually involves replacement therapy with corticosteroids for life. Corticosteroid drug that is taken orally (by mouth), replacing cortisol and aldosterone the body does not produce.
* Hydrocortisone tablets to replace the missing cortisol.
* Prednisolone or dexamethasone may be prescribed (rarely).
* Fludrocortisone may be prescribed for the missing aldosterone.
Sometimes dehydroepiandrosterone may be prescribed if there is androgen (male hormone) deficiency.
